Two Types of Optimisation
On-Page and Off-Page Optimisation
There are two types of search engine optimisation:
- on-page optimisation: this refers to making sure that your web site is targeting the right keywords and that your web site is properly set up to target those keywords,
- off-page optimisation: this refers to one and only one thing - backlinks. Backlinks are links on other web sites that 'point' to your web site.
The Good News
The good news is that on-page optimisation is relatively easy to do if you know what you are doing.
The Bad News
On-page optimisation is only the first step, depending on the seach engine you want your web site to rank well with. It is possible to rank well with Yahoo and MSN with just on-page optimisation.
But to rank well with Google, you need both on-page and off-page optimisation as Google places a lot of value on backlinks. And backlinks are the hardest to get.
